David Griffin’s TED Talk talks about something we often take for granted; photography is one of the most powerful tools humans have for storytelling. As the former director of photography for National Geographic, he explains that photographs do more than capture moments they create emotions between people, cultures, and experiences. What stuck with me most is his point that photography is universal, even without words, an image can communicate fear, joy, loss, or hope. His examples, especially the emotionally charged journalistic images he shares, reinforce how a single frame can reveal truths that might otherwise remain distant. His talk reminded me that photography is not just about technical skill but about intention, empathy, but the desire to connect with others.

At the same time, Griffin’s message invites a critique of how we consume photos today. While he emphasizes photography’s ability to unite us, the modern digital landscape overwhelms us with an endless stream of pictures, many being stripped of context or meaning. It raises the question on whether the emotional impact he celebrates is lessened by oversaturation. Still, his argument holds: that the right photograph crafted with purpose can cut through the noise and resonate deeply with a person. Watching his talk made me reevaluate the images I take and share. Instead of snapping photos mindlessly, I want to be more intentional, appreciate more fully, and connect more genuinely with the world around me.

This class is and course are great as long as you have an interest in photography or at least an open mind. Our assignments are varied and thought out but there is a bit of busy work you’ll have to be doing. However, the assignments will make you have to get creative if you want to produce a good image. So, if you don’t like this class you’ll come to find enjoyment sooner or later.

The workload within the class is doable but often you’ll have the need to extend the due date and if your class is good, Mrs. Cauchon will be happy to do so. Make sure you make work you can be proud because otherwise this class would be for nothing. Another reason to putt real effort into the class is to show off all your work with your portfolio that you’ll have to present to the class. The portfolio will be a collection of all your work, and you don’t want to look lazy in front of everyone. Meanwhile you should make it your focus to techniques in shooting photos and above all editing. Forgetting editing techniques cause far too many problems when working on assignments.

Photo 1 is good class it’s introduced to the world of photography and hopefully you to. But in some way, it didn’t you better hope photo 2 will since you’ll have to take it because of it being a pathway. However, take this read as a hope to the future and not grim reminder of what’s to come. So, go and enjoy what’ll the class has to offer.

Emily Blincoe has perfected and is presumably the biggest name in meticulous photography. This photo in particular captured my attention because of its seamless transition of colors while incorporating so many at once. It’s also pleasant to look at and simple to understand and not needing to look for some deeper meaning.
